You cannot build truth on a lie. Systems built on false assumptions about human worth cannot produce justice. We must question the beliefs that made these systems possible.

We cannot reform our way out of a system built on family separation. RESTORE offers a seven-step framework for replacing child welfare with a system that strengthens families instead of tearing them apart.

Every person is born with equal worth. Every family deserves dignity. And every institution must be held accountable for the harm it causes, regardless of its intentions.

I'm an Ethiopian-American speaker, writer, advocate, and child welfare leader who spent more than two decades working inside Florida's child welfare system.

 

I've seen firsthand what happens when we give institutions the power to decide which families deserve to stay together. I've also come to question the assumptions we've accepted about parents, poverty, race, and government authority.

 

Today, I'm challenging those assumptions and inviting others to do the same.

 

I don't claim to have all the answers. But I believe we have a responsibility to tell the truth about what we see, question what we've inherited, and have the courage to build something different.
